I spent all yesterday late afternoon into the night watching live coverage of the tornadoes that swept across Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas…as one who has always lived in one coastal state or another, I can’t fathom living under such a threat…not just once, but year after year. Modern technology has made life a little more predictable, but warning is only effective if people heed that warning…and heeding the warnings doesn’t guarantee that you will emerge unscathed. Modern technology has also given us, via storm chasers in cars and helicopters livestreaming for us an amazing little window into this powerful meteorological phenomena. Needless to say, I was glued to my TV.
Speaking of weather, I have been moaning about the lack of sunshine in my life over the past few weeks. When I woke up this morning, I knew something was different even before I opened my eyes. Diffuse light glowed through my window wall. The sound of the waves was muted and the birds were calling. I waited until after sunrise to take any photos, but had to rush out to grab shots while there was still light. As you will see in the photos, the heavy weather isn’t gone…it just took an early morning coffee break.
